Introduction

This guide has been written in response to the many questions consumers have asked regarding the storage and safety of foods. Often consumers believe that packaged food products last forever. This is not true, time does change them. Use your good judgement will all foods.

First, look at the product. Your eyes can tell you about the quality.

Second, smell the item. If it is unpleasant in smell, it is usually not consumable.

The government and the food industry work together to ensure that the food you purchase is wholesome and safe, but only you can guarantee that the food you eat is nutritious and germ-free. Once products leave the store, the way you handle them influences their nutritional content, safety, and appearance.

We hope this guide will serve as a useful guide for the storage and preparation of foods, and also as a handy reference for preparing meat, poultry, and seafood.
